What takes 2 weeks, covers 4000 kilometres and visits 2000 children in over 70 schools from 30 towns? The Moorambilla Voices Regional Children’s Choirs Workshops and Audition Tour!
This is the 6th year Artistic Director Michelle Leonard is visiting schools and community centres across the region, holding 45 - 60 minute music skills workshops (with separate ones for Primary School boys and girls). The workshops are energetic, fun and fully inclusive and include:
- singing exercises
- pitch matching
- setting words to music
- sol-fa (Kodaly) techniques and music literacy
- percussion / rhythmic and body percussion
From these workshops we select gifted children who show outstanding natural capacity to participate in Moorambilla Voices' annual program.
We also encourage teachers, parents and community members to attend these free workshops which are concluded with a discussion on this year's creative ideas for the repertoire, as well as a mentoring scheme to support the delivery of choral skills at school and at home, and ideas to further develop singing programs in the classroom.
Our 2011 tour will commence 27 March and will be on the road until 8 April 2011!
All primary school children in years years 3 - 6 are invited to take part in a music skills development workshop with Artistic Director Michelle Leonard. 200 children and young people are then selected to take part in the Moorambilla Voices program as a member of the Regional Boys or Regional Girls Choirs. Those chosen have a voice that is fully developed, or one that shows great potential to develop and improve during the course of this project. They are naturally gifted “raw” musicians who will be given the opportunity to work and thrive in an innovative and creative environment with professional musicians.
The High school students in years 7 -10 who are selected will have shown aptitude in singing and percussion, and a creative interest and capacity in using words to create text and music.
All Moorambilla Voices candidates are also selected for their ability to actively participate, to achieve musical excellence and contribute something unique to the project, socially and artistically.

CAN'T ATTEND THE WORKSHOP BUT STILL WANT TO AUDITION?
Michelle would still love to see you sing! Please send a DVD recording of yourself singing a simple, unaccompanied folksong to PO Box 495, Leichhardt NSW 2045. We will respond to all recorded auditions to let you know either way if you have been selected to participate in Moorambilla Voices 2011.
