Margie Moore, OAM

Margie Moore has extensive experience as an Arts, Education and Music educator and administrator. She has had successful careers as a teacher, Music consultant, Lecturer in Arts Education and managing the highly regarded Sydney Symphony Education Program. Most recently she has worked as an Arts in Education consultant for Musica Viva, the Australia Council for the Arts, Symphony Services International, the NSW Department of Education and Training (both Curriculum Directed and the Arts Unit), and worked with the Berlin Philharmonic’s Education team during their tour in 2010. During her varied career she has initiated and delivered programs which have contributed to Arts and Education in Australia, given her personal fulfillment and been acclaimed by others.
Margie is described as someone who is committed, intelligent and creative as an individual and team player who strives to achieve. She values and expounds the role Arts plays in children’s development and in the well-being of all people at every opportunity.
She is an excellent communicator and has been awarded six national awards since 2001 for her work both as an educator and with the Sydney Symphony and two prestigious teaching awards when lecturing at UNSW. She has held the positions of President and executive member with both State and National music teacher associations and served on the Board of the Sydney Symphony as a staff elected representative and on the Board of The Orchestras Association of Australia. She has been invited to represent Australia in both national and international forums on a number of occasions.
During her working career she has initiated and managed a number of programs for the Sydney Symphony that have resulted in growing audiences of all ages and increased support from government, sponsors and donors. She is experienced in managing large and small teams of people and inspiring both commitment and loyalty to achieving goals together. She has been involved in developing high quality support materials for teachers and students in schools including resource kits, CD’s, DVD’s and web-based communication tools. Her creativity, achievements and acclaim have given her a strong profile in the Arts and Education communities and a large network of colleagues.
In her spare time Margie enjoys singing in the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus, a community based award winning choir, who perform quality choral repertoire, including commissioned Australian works, in vibrant settings.
In January 2011, Margie was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her services to Arts through Music Education.
