2 pm   MAXed Out Preview  A NEW MULTIMEDIA WORK ON THE FESTIVAL THEME

FESTIVAL OPENING CONCERT

7.30 pm  THE BARD OF BOURKE & HIS BLOKES!

A night of sensational fun and music not to be missed featuring regional artist in residence “The Bard of Bourke” Andrew Hull with his Lonely Horse Band and the powerful sound of the Coonamble men’s choir – Songs in the key of bloke, oh, and watch out for the women!!

All profits from this concert go to the restoration of the Plaza theatre, and the establishment of the Monterey regional gallery.

2.30 pm   MAXed OUT FESTIVAL PREMIERE

Be the first to experience the amazing creativity of the region’s youth at the world premiere of the Festival commission featuring stunning visuals, percussion, electronic and live music.

There will be a pre-concert talk at 2.30pm.

5.30 pm FESTIVAL WORKS REHEARSAL

See behind-the-scenes as all the choirs rehearse new works written for the Festival Gala Concert. Watch how new works by Australia’s leading composers Stephen Leek, Elena Kats-Chernin, Dan Walker, Marco Creazzo, Michelle Leonard and Luke Robinson come to life in the rehearsal. And you might even be blown away by two of the most famous choruses ever written – Hallelujah from Messiah and O Fortuna from Carmina Burana!

From 6.00pm ARTS ALIVE

The Coonamble arts society - ARTS ALIVE hold their annual art exhibition featuring the best of local visual arts and craft.

Where: Coonamble Bowling Club Auditorium, Coonamble

8.30pm COONAMBLE CROONERS KARAOKE COMPETITION

Don’t be shy – join the locals and visitors in a hilarious and entertaining night of musical mayhem. Jump out of the shower and into the limelight!

MOORAMBILLA MARKETS

Where: Shop local, in the main street Castlereagh Street, Coonamble and enjoy the Moorambilla markets featuring unique local arts and crafts. Lost? Need more information? Go to the Moorambilla Kiosk located in the centre of the main street.

9am - 12 Noon KIDS ONLY FREE WORKSHOPS

Learn Poi, make your own wings or even a bird for tonight's lantern parade - ideal for mums who want to have some time doing the morning workshops at the festival.

Where:          St Pat's Hall, opposite the Catholic church

This workshop has been kindly donated to the mums and kids by Castlereagh Livestock.

 

9 – 10am FESTIVAL WORKSHOPS SESSION 1

 

11am – Noon FESTIVAL WORKSHOPS SESSION 2

The schedule and venue of workshops will be available from the website in early August. Watch out for drumming, jazz, musical theatre, gospel, opera, world music and country workshops or maybe learn how to read music?

10am and 3pm JAZZ & HIGH TEA AT THE MONTERAY CAFE

Real country hospitality and jazz by the BJ's. Have a rest and enjoy the best scones and homestyle spread in town.

Where:  The Monterey Café, Castlereagh Street, Coonamble.

12 noon LUNCH & LIVE ENTERTAINMENT

Whip cracking, the bird call competition, and free horse-drawn carriage rides – all while enjoying lunch in the grounds of the Coonamble Museum.

1.30pm  MOORAMBILLA LUNCH TIME CONCERT

This concert is a favourite on the Festival program. Hear the Regional Children’s Choir guest artists the “Hot Flats” and Coonamble “Songs in the Key of She” and surprise guests.  

All profits from this concert go to the restoration of the Plaza theatre, and the establishment of the Monterey regional gallery.

6.30pm MOORAMBILLA ANNUAL LANTERN PARADE featuring this year’s theme “FLIGHT AND FREEDOM”

Found sound sculptures feature alongside spectacular lanterns – see the parade at dusk to experience the magic!

Where:  Parade along the main street, past the Peace Tree to the Catholic Church.

Tickets: FREE EVENT….. bring your own wings and FLY

 

7.15pm MOORAMBILLA GALA SCHOLARSHIP CONCERT

The flagship Festival musical event featuring ALL the choirs, string quartet and the very best the Festival has to offer. The premiere of festival commissioned new Australian choral works by Leek, Kats-Chernin, Walker and Robinson plus some spectacular massed choir pieces to finish

All profits go to the scholarship fund to enable regional children to participate in 2009.

Where:  Catholic Church, Coonamble 

Tickets: $25 adults / $15 concession / $60 family

 

8.30pm POST CONCERT DINNER

Dinner at historic St Pat’s Hall, opposite the Catholic church, with live music by local singer songwriter Kylie Henderson, then stroll to the Cabaret Club and watch the fun as the workshop presenters and guests to strut their stuff.

Catch the workshop you missed on Saturday; or take a horse drawn carriage ride, then you’ll need refreshment at the Monterey Café.

12 noon LUNCHTIME CONCERT

This is the fun concert where the workshop presenters and all their groups give you a sample of their weekend’s festive creations. Experience a massed choir singing some Messiah, Carmina Burana, and even the audience gets a go!

FREE FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES

From Saturday 6th September - sign up for these FREE festival activities at the RTC Coonamble:

SIGN ON        and join the wonderful Lismore Lantern Makers as they create magnificent birds for this years lantern parade “Flight and Freedom” at the Coonamble Youth Centre  - for all ages

SIGN ON          and work on completing the Pool mural, learning skills in stenciling and painting with the fabulous Kate McCarthy - young men especially welcome

SIGN ON        and do workshops with Indigenous artist in residence Louise Marne as she creates beautiful bird sculptures with feathers and straw – for all ages

SIGN ON           and test out the new “found sound” sculptures for Moorambilla 2008. Play and create new grooves as junk is turned into innovative musical instruments before they are showcased at the lantern parade.
