Moorambilla Voices celebrates life’s incredible possibilities by empowering children and youth to think and dream big. Moorambilla Voices provides a unique chance for young people in remote and regional communities of NSW to share their creative selves by connecting with artists of the highest calibre – composers, musicians, choreographers and visual artists to co-create outstanding works for performance that celebrate the rich culture of this region. This includes music, taiko, dance and visual art. Their concerts receive standing ovations.
Moorambilla Voices provides music programs to over 120 schools in regional and remote NSW (Years 3-12 predominately in the North West of NSW) that would otherwise have no resource to provide music programs. From these school music programs, Moorambilla Voices then creates an inclusive regional choir of artistic excellence for children and young people, regardless of their financial or social background. Moorambilla Voices celebrates the diversity in this part of the State, focusing on the language, land and legends of the people in collaboration with professional musicians and artists.
More than 300 students attend a camp where they dance, sing, compose, paint, create, play drums and learn about the cultural traditions and stories of their landscape. The results of this collaboration are then showcased in a series of concerts or as a tour, which means each child’s journey ends in an uplifting performance.
Irene Hendrick’s love of music has always been with her, from the time spent with her Aunty Sil, who was a classically trained pianist, to weekly Mitch Miller family sing-a-longs.
When Irene became Chief Operating Officer of The Song Company, she was introduced to Michelle Leonard OAM (Artistic Director) of Moorambilla Voices and fell instantly in love with the important work they do. It incorporated her passion for music and kids and fulfilled her belief that “music feeds the soul”.
It is Irene’s wish and her families that you give generously to Moorambilla Voices Touring Fund.
